First-ever award recognizes Polin’s water slide for its “exceptional innovation”

Polin Waterparks and Pool Systems is pleased to announce that its King Cobra waterslide at Aqualand Frejus was awarded First Place in the category of Best Waterslide in Europe by Kirmes & Park Revue magazine.

The award was presented yesterday evening during a special reception in Berlin, Germany.

This is the first year that Kirmes & Park Revue has presented its European Star Awards, dedicated solely to the European theme park industry. An international team of experts voted in 10 different categories to determine the winners, acknowledging the efforts of European theme parks and attraction designers and focusing the spotlight on their “entrepreneurial courage” and “exceptional innovation,” according to the magazine’s staff.

Aqualand owner, Aspro Group, chose Polin’s King Cobra slide as the newest attraction for Aqualand Frejus after previously working with Polin on installations at several other parks that Aspro Group owns. Aspro Group is the largest operator of leisure parks and centers in Europe and owns 20 waterparks (among 41 parks and centers) in France, Portugal, Finland, Switzerland and Spain.

Aqualand Frejus is the first waterpark in France to be home to a King Cobra waterslide.

King Cobra is unique not only for its appearance but also for its thrilling ride. Bold red, black and white scales provide an imposing veneer over the exterior and interior of the slide’s massive 50-foot (15.24-meter) height and 260-foot (790-meter) length. Special effects—such as fog, sound and lighting—amp up the ride’s thrills.
The core feature of King Cobra is its unique configuration that enables two riders to race along a circular path filled with twists, turns and surprises. Water pressure of 3,875 gallons (14,668 liters) per minute catapults riders through open and closed tubes before they brave a heart-pounding plunge nearly 25 feet (8 meters) down a 50-degree slope. Along the way, riders accelerate to speeds of up to 32 mph (51 km/h). One of the aspects of King Cobra that sets it apart from competitors’ slides is that it is made entirely via resin transfer molding (RTM).  One of the primary advantages of this technology is that it creates slide components that are smooth and shiny on both sides.

Wilfrid Lelandais, Director of Operations for Aqualand Fréjus, praised the ride for its attractive appearance, engineering expertise and superior rider comfort. “King Cobra offers an intense riding experience that park patrons can’t get enough of. The ride has proven itself to be the No. 1 attraction for top waterparks that want to offer cutting-edge attractions to attract visitors.”

Lelandais said he was thrilled not only to have the first King Cobra at their park, but that it was also the first in France. The fact that it has now won an industry-wide award only justifies the company’s choice to add the ride to its long list of attractions, he said.

Polin spoke person expressed her thanks to Aqualand for being such a cooperative and ambitious partner in the project that brought King Cobra to the French waterpark. “We want to congratulate Aqualand for winning this award. Working together, our two companies were able to design an attraction that will attract thousands more guests every year,” she said.
